about mja

M.J. Alexander’s luminous portraits have been exhibited here and abroad, from Toronto to Tonkawa. Her work has been honored by the Center for Fine Art Photography—where a reviewer called her images “iconic, timeless”—and featured in 10 solo shows, including at the Main Gallery of the International Photography Hall of Fame, which touts her “brilliant portraits” and an approach “combining the vision of an artist with the skills of a storyteller.” She won a documentary prize at the 2009 UNESCO-sponsored World Humanity Photography Awards in Guangzhou, China; the only American honored. She gravitates toward projects that pay heed to the overlooked, the underestimated, the very old and the very young.
